What is Beauty? 3/19/26
This is a question I ask myself frequently. What is beauty? What does it mean? Why does it make us feel
the way that it does? Beauty, in whatever form it takes, is deeply personal. Some find it in places others
do not. Wherever it is, an impenetrable wall is erected. A wall that, when taken in, blocks all that is negative.
Eventually, leaks start to form, and the wall is weathered down. And what’s most beautiful about beauty is that
it persists. That wall may be a little stump, but it’s still there, and it’s up to you to rebuild it. I don’t know
what makes something beautiful. Maybe it’s effortless complexity, or an overwhelming amount of back breaking work;
natural earth formed structures, or man made wonders. It’s objective. Some try to argue that and put metrics or
numbers to measure beauty. That is a fool’s errand. It's impossible to quantify, and that's what makes it beautiful.
